Is it even possible to make “A Christmas Carol” more classic than it already is? The Berkshire Theater Group is going to try, by adding James Taylor to the cast this season. Yes, THAT James Taylor, author of a thousand American song classics that have engaged an entire generation…and Berkshires resident.
Mr. Taylor takes on the role of Bob Crachit, Ebenezer Scrooge’s ill-treated but good-hearted assistant. Though Taylor is famous for singing, not acting (not yet!), doesn’t it just make sense somehow? We’re betting that his Crachit will radiate that same warmth that has made Taylor himself a relatable character. Perhaps amplifying the anticipated cozy result: Taylor’s wife Kim, and his two sons, Rufus and Henry also appear in the production. Kim participates, appropriately, as his wife, Mrs. Crachit (it’s her second year in the role) and the boys will play a young Scrooge, and a participant in the Crachit family Christmas dinner.
The show runs December 17 to 30 at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, MA.
